RACE UPDATES
RACE LOCATION
The 2025 races will be held in New Castle, Colorado. Just 9 miles west of Glenwood Springs.
RACE ACTIVITIES
Genesis is moving to Garfield County – in the beautiful town of New Castle, just 9 miles west of Glenwood Springs. This year’s 6 and 12-hour races will be held on Sunday, June 1. Adventure races are all done using orienteering skills (compass and map), no GPS devices are allowed, but we are happy to give instruction.
Mountain bikes are required, no e-bikes or gravel bikes allowed.
All races will require you, and all members of your team to mountain bike, trek/hike, kayak as well as complete any rock sections which could include climbing, rappelling or a Tyrolean Traverse. All climbing gear will be provided and experience guides from SAI will be there to assure safety and help you to succeed. You’ll need to wear your bike helmet. You are allowed to ‘skip’ a section but will be ranked accordingly. The final race distances are yet to be determined, but the following general descriptions will apply:
While still competitive, the 6-hour course is geared towards beginners and/or experienced racers on teams to introduce family and friends to this exciting sport. It will consist of 10-15 miles of mountain biking, 3-6 miles of hiking/trekking, and approximately 1 mile paddling on the Colorado River, and some sort of ropes section (TBD).
The 12-hour course is our most challenging course with much more navigation required, with all the same disciplines as in the 6-hour race. It will cover more than 50+ total miles, including mountain biking in New Castle trail system!
Military and first responders, please contact us for a team discount of 10%.
Arc’Teryx is Back! Sign up for the Arc’Teryx/RMAS Mini Series!
The Rocky Mountain Adventure Series is proud to be partners with Arc’Teryx in 2025. Arc’Teryx will be sponsoring a ‘Mini Race Series’ with in the RMAS including 3 races: Genesis, Never Summer and Battle by the Brook. Registration is free. Teams must compete in at least 2 of the three to be eligible for prizes. Watch for details coming soon.
Orienteering Course! May 31
The orienteering clinic makes a triumphant return as well! This course will be lead by an experienced member of our team. We’ve had excellent feedback from all of those who have participated in prior clinics. “We were able to navigate the course because of Matthew’s training!”
Boat Rental
You may bring your own pack raft or kayak. SUPs won’t be allowed as the water level may be high at that time. We don’t anticipate anything above Class II, but there may be some short Class III sections.
If you need to rent a boat, Whitewater Rafting, in Glenwood Springs, is sponsoring us and has boats available and will both deliver them and drop them off for us. Please bring your boat rental confirmation to registration.
You may also contact:
Glenwood Springs Adventure Company 970-945-7529
They have lots of double and single duckies available. The price is a little less, but we believe you will also need to inflate these boats – they provide pumps.
These boats will be your responsibility to pick up and return. Please make appropriate arrangements. We will transport your boat from the Boat-Take-Out TA – back to the Start/Finish area so they are there for you when you finish the race.
SUPs are not allowed (even though it had been indicated on the website!)
The beautiful town of New Castle
This is a beautiful community with outstanding biking and hiking trails. We hope our racers and volunteers will come early and stay late – to enjoy and shop in the local business’ and just spend time in this little hidden gem of a town. We have absolutely loved working with everyone on the town committees and administrative boards. They are a pure pleasure!
We will be donating $5 of each registration to the Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association to go toward trail work in maintaining these awesome trails.
Lodging
We are working on camping options, but there are Air B&B/VRBO options, local camping (Elk Creek Campground as well as a KOA campground just down the road in Silt) several local hotels – Holiday Inn and Red River Inn. There is 1 hotel in New Castle, Wyndgate, right off of I-70. There are multiple options 9 miles away in Glenwood Springs as well. It is possible we will come up with a camping area at the start / finish, but that isn’t yet a guarantee.
TEAMS
Racers may compete as Solo’s or in teams of 2, 3 or 4. Teams can be all male, all female (Open Division) or CoEd
